VELMA DUKES

Velma Jean Dukes was born March 23, 1941 in Bishop, KJ Texas to Mr. Gillis Dukes and Mrs. Mary Lou Wright Dukes. She was the eight child of 14 children. Velma received her education in the San Antonio ISD.

 She learned about Christ from an early age. Her dedication to God through Christ was personal by belief and prayer in God's holy name and God's holy will and word.

She was the head cook at Luby's Cafeteria for 22 years. Knowing her was loving her, her Heart was pure and her Soul was Gold. She had a Big Heart and was always willing to help others.

 On Sunday September 6th 2020 God called her name and she answered. Velma was preceded in death by her father, Gillis Dukes and mother Mary Lou Wright-Dukes, and her siblings Rachel, Peggy, Buster, Jessie Ray, Jessie May, Author, Paul, Odell (Dukes) and Robert Hardeman.

Velma leaves behind to cherish her loving memory her children Sylvia Rogers, Candi Dukes and a son Xavier Lagrant. She leaves her remaining siblings Richard Dukes, Rosemary Lang, James Dukes and Myra Thomas. Her Grandchildren Kotraice, Jonelt and Marcus Johnson and her Great-Grandchildren Khi Bledso, Zoey Johnson and Xion and Xia Lagrant, along with a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
