November 21, 1954 ~ November 26, 2023 (age 69) 69 Years Old



Thomas Lee Crowell, the son of the late Jessie Mae Hunter-Crowell Sims, and Leroy Sims was born on November 21, 1954 in Phenix City, Alabama. God called him home peacefully and quietly on Sunday, November 26, 2023. 

Thomas received his education from the Phenix City Public School System. After school, he joined the United States Army, where he served faithfully for twenty-two years, demonstrating unwavering commitment, honor, ad dedication. During his time in service, he was deployed to serve in two conflicts Grenada and Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Thomas continued his military education while serving in the Army, where he became an OH6/OH56 helicopter repairman, Infantryman and an Observation Helicopter Technical Inspector. He received numerous awards and decorations, to include: Legion of Merit, Meritorious service medal, Army commendation medal, Army achievement medal, Army good conduct medal (4th award), national defense service medal W/2 bronze service stars, NCO Professional development ribbon, Southwest Asia service medal, Kuwait Liberation medal, Kuwait Liberation medal Saudi Arabia, Overseas service ribbon (5), Army service ribbon, Aircraft crewmember badge, and the Senior aircraft crewmember badge, and additional awards and decorations for his diligence service.

After retirement from the United States Army as Master Sergeant in May 1996, he was employed by the Fort Sam Houston Golf Course, where he became the accounting manager and retired again in 2018.

Thomas was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed football, his family and his fur-best friend Winston Churchill.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Jessie Mae Hunter-Crowell Sims, father Leroy Sims, grandfather Golious Hunter Sr., grandmothers Florence Hunter and Atlena Tolbert, sister Erma Crowell-Gary and niece Kim Gary-Short.

He leaves to cherish his memories and is survived by his wife Jane Crowell, daughter Shurette (Kim), step-children LaKeith (LaQuita) Anderson, LaVetta (Eugene) Anderson, fur baby Winston Churchill. Three sisters, Dorothy (Eugene) Steele Sr., Yvonne (William) Epps Jr., and Arlena (Willie C) Williams Sr., one brother Ricky (Wanda) Crowell, 6 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins.
