SUSIE ELIZABETH NANCE-VANBUREN, daughter of the late Tom Nance and Erma Ree Walker-Young, was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 16, 1952. She was the oldest of five siblings. She accepted Christ at an early age. Late husband John VanBuren preceded in death. She departed this life at the age of 67 at home on May 23, 2020.
Susie graduated from Sam Houston High School and later attended St. Phillips College where she received her Licensed Vocational Nurse Certification in 1974. She also attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University. She worked in this field for four years but felt her true passion was to be a nurse. She worked as a nurse for approximate 44 years. She was a founding member of Now Word Convent Church, worked in the Greeter’s Ministry as well as others. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Christopher Delight Chapter #1. She was a strong advocate in educating her patients, family and friends in maintaining a good healthy lifestyle. This was another one of her passions. Susie was also a business owner of an Adult Assistant Living Facility. Her life’s work was to serve others even to the end and she did this with professionalism, dedication and Love. She was truly love those who knew her.
Susie is survived by two loving sons: Derick Latroy VanBuren (Alexis) and Duone Bluford. Boyfriend Michael Lampkin. Clarence Thompson, who helped raise her children. One Uncle, Robert Walker, Four Sisters Sarah Hardin, Sharon Holdipp (Dave), Kimberly Young and Tomika Young and one brother Patrick Young. Four Grandchildren, D’Andra VanBuren, Deja Bluford, Tyler VanBuren and Destiny Bluford and a host of relatives and friends.
