(Retired) TSGT. MELVIN JONES Obituary

TSgt. Melvin Jones, Sr.,(retired), Melvin (Cool Mel), was born to the parentage of Superintendent Walter L. Jones, Sr. and District Missionary Lovesa Haywood Jones, in Columbus, Tx.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, Five brothers: Walter L. Jones, Jr., Eugene Jones, John W. Jones, Elvin Jones and Robert Jones. Five sisters: Bernice Crayton, District Missionary, LaVerne Burks, Wiennetta James, and Eloise Sykes. 

Melvin received Christ at an early age under the leadership of his father Superintendent Walter L. Jones, Sr.,at West End Church Of God In Christ. Melvin was a faithful member, where he was a servant of the Lord. He was a choir member, served on the Usher Board, and was a part of all youth activities. 

Melvin received his formal education in the San Antonio Independent School District, graduating from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1962. 

After graduating from high school, he immediately enlisted into the United States Air Force, where he faithfully remained for over twenty (20) years before retiring. Melvin received many accommodation and traveled the world, enjoying every opportunity offered him during the many years while serving and protecting. After retiring, Melvin was employed by the United States Postal service. 

Melvin was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

He had a special love and bond with his twin Elvin and nephew, who was like a brother, Charles H. Kirby, (Bo). 

Melvin was generous with anything he owned. His sense of humor was uplifting and his smile was contagious. Melvin loved his devoted family. 

Melvin leaves to mourn his departure from this world to his final resting home:

Janice Roberts, [Los Angeles, CA.], Lovesa Jones, [Greeneville, TN.],

Melanie Jones, Melvin Jones Jr., William Jones, Rodney Smith, all of

[Knoxville, TN.,] Preston Davis, [Baltimore, MD.], and Richard Smith, [Johnson City], Sixteen (16) grandchildren, Four (4) great-grandchildren, Stepsister: Sequita Winston, Ft. Worth, TX., Sister-In-Law, Pauline Jones, Dallas, TX., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
