ROYCE BAKER Obituary

Royce Linda Turner Baker was born September 1, 1944 in Pensacola, Florida to Roy and Dorothy Turner.  She married James Reed Baker in 1965 and moved to San Antonio, Texas.  To this union three children were born: James “Greg” (Deanna) Baker of Conyers, Georgia, Cedric (Stacey) Baker of Port St. Lucey, Florida and Angel (John) Martin of San Antonio, Texas.

Royce loved all children and her passion to help them, particularly those with special needs, this led her to a career in education.  She worked for 15 years in the Edgewood Independent School District as a Teachers Assistant and after retiring in 2000, she continued working as a substitute teacher in the San Antonio and Judson Independent School Districts.  Besides teaching, Royce was well known for her scratch made meals and desserts.  Her house was a destination for many holiday meals and gatherings.

Her journey in Christ has led her to many churches over her lifetime.  God saw fit for her to have a loving church home to call her own.  Two years ago, she found a home at Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Kevin Nelson.  Her heart and spirit were filled with joy every time she attended worship.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy L. and Dorothy B. Turner; her brothers Roy L. Turner, Jr. and Kenneth Turner; her sisters Doris Turner Keys and Elaine Jackson.  Two nephews Darin Potter and Ethan Pickett.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories:  Greg, Cedric, Angel and their spouses; two brothers: Donell Turner and Marshall Turner; two sisters: Faye (Prennis) Scholtz and Jacqueline (Theodore) Albright of Pensacola, Florida.; seven grandchildren: Cedric J. Baker, Jr., Joseph Baker, James Z. Baker, John D. Martin, Taylor Martin, Omar Baker and Darius Martin; one great grandson: Christian Baker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
