RITA POLK Obituary

 

          Matthew 5:9    Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Rita Lashay "Boo" Polk was born November 29, 1969 in San Antonio, Texas and is the youngest child born to Mr. Robert W. Polk, Sr. and Gloris Polk. She transitioned from this life on October 1, 2018.

Growing up Rita was a member and attended Joy Temple COGIC under the leadership of the late Superintendent R. T. Iglehart and later Pastor Duane Hammond. She was a member of the Sunshine Band, Youth Choir, Mass Choir and Purity Class. Her final church home was Divine Purpose Church under the guidance of Pastor Johnnie Evans, Jr.

Rita graduated from  Oliver W. Holmes  High School in San Antonio, TX. in  1987 and attended college at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX. in which she majored in Criminal Justice and Sociology. While in high school she was a member of the Girl's Basketball Team, The Government Club, and the African American Club. During her college years she worked at the San Angelo Girls Home and received awards for her work with the youth of that agency. After college, she worked in the area of social services for over 15 years. Rita received many awards and accolades while working with the Texas Key Program. Her last place of employment was Community in Schools where she worked as a Program Coordinator.

Rita leaves behind her life-long companion Jerry Joyce. She is survived by her siblings: Joyce DeLoach (Jim-deceased); Minister Lisa Wilson; Robert Polk, Jr. (Audra Johnson); Michael Polk; Donna "Dea" Polk; Michelle Polk Greathouse (Andrew). Her nieces and nephews: Chereece "Cat" Polk Kingston (Dustin); Quincilla Polk Benavides (Shawn); Christopher Bradford (Sophie); Nicholas Polk (Jackie); Crystal Polk; Amber Polk; Brittany Polk Bridgeforth (Eddie); Brian Bautista (Jackie); Chastity Hebert-Darden (Darrell); Joshua "Bobo" Hebert; Robert Polk; III; Samantha Polk and Khaliah Gaines. A God father Ray Burton, Sr., Special Aunt Jewel "Mom" Polk. A  host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends. She is preceded in death by play sister Sybil Golightly, play brother Johnny Lopez and her Aunt Dorothy Smith aka "Sister" who named her.

Rita, as you transition to your new home, WE the family, want YOU to remember how much YOU are loved, WE thank YOU for all the beautiful memories, WE appreciate YOUR life. WE know YOU are in a better place. When YOU get there, WE ask just one thing of YOU. .... PLEASE FIND BOTH OF YOUR SHOES! (Smiles) .
