PHILLIP HOWARD, JR. Obituary

Phillip T Howard Jr., fondly known to friends and family as “Teep” was born on July 2, 1948 at Ropher Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina to parents Phillip Howard and Mary Grampus Howard. He grew up in Bluffton, South Carolina where he attended and graduated from Michael C. Riley High School in 1967. While attending Michael C. Riley he played his favorite sport – Basketball. After graduating high school, Phillip enjoyed playing Baseball with the Community Team – Bluffton Eagles. He also enjoyed swimming and spending time with his friends in the community where they often spent time at Mr. Prince Jones Shop. He worked for several years at the Sea Pines Resort before embarking upon a career in the United States Army.

Phillip was drafted into the US Army in 1967 and served 24 and ½ years before he retired in 1991. He had a remarkable military career and received several awards for his accomplishments while serving our country. Phillip was preceded in death by his Mother, Father and wife of 47 years, Annie Mae Howard. He leaves two daughters, (RET) US Army MAJ Marva Humphrey and Marlo Bryant; two granddaughters, Clinique Mike and Naomi Bryant; two great granddaughters, Faith Mike and Briella Jones, two brothers and their wives; William (Denise) Howard and Curtis (America) Howard and one sister, Eva Howard along with 8 nieces and nephews.

Phillip was a sports fanatic and didn’t know a stranger. He was a blessing to all that knew and loved him. He was a leading example of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His favorite scripture was, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it”. Corinthians 10:13 NIV Phillip was indeed a legacy builder and will be missed tremendously.
