MILDRED JORDAN Obituary

“The days of our lives are seventy years and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet the best of them is only labor and sorrow, for it is soon cut off and we fly away.” Psalms 90:10

It is with profound sadness, love, and gratitude, the family of Mildred Jordan announces her passing on January 25, 2023 at the age of 88, while peacefully in her sleep.

Mildred was born on July 1, 1934, in Gonzales, Texas, to Alonzo and Lucille (McPherson) Seay. She accepted Christ into her life early at Saint Luke Baptist Church. She graduated from Gonzales High School in 1952 and then moved to San Antonio to attend St. Phillips College. There she graduated and received her license to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She remained in the profession for over 30 years. In 1964, Mildred met and married Ernest Jordan, an Air Force Veteran. Through her husband's 27-year military career, she lived and traveled to Taiwan, Turkey, Alaska and many other duty stations. She was a doting mother to her two beloved children, her son Larry and her daughter Tiffany. She was also a kind and compassionate grandmother to her three granddaughters, Amani, Savoria and Nyha.

Mildred enjoyed cooking, shopping, bowling, tennis, playing cards and Bingo, watching Soap Operas and sports in her spare time. She was a lifelong fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. She also had a love for dogs and throughout her life, having had multiple, they were a special addition to the family that brought immense happiness to her life.

Mildred was a long-term member of Tree Mount Temple Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served on the Usher board, in the Women's ministry and other auxiliary committees. She later joined Calvary Baptist Church which was her final church home, before her declining health. After suffering from a stroke, she moved to Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, to be looked after by family.

Despite her declining health and immobility, Mildred remained witty, strong-willed, and competitive, especially during her weekly games of Bingo. She was a discerning woman with exquisite taste; she provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. She opened her home and her heart to family and friends, constantly providing home-cooked meals, hugs, laughs, and advice to those who needed it. She was a generous woman who always gave and showed by example God's love for us all. She was the personification of love.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Lucille Seay; brothers: Charles, Billy, and Lesley; and sisters; Gladys, Marian, and Dorothy.

Left behind with precious memories are her loving husband Ernest, son Larry, daughter Tiffany and her husband Clifford. Granddaughters: Savoria, Amani, and Nyha. Brothers: Alonzo Seay Jr, Sisters: Mattie, Annie, Joyce, and Carolyn, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

While her family and friends will forever feel her loss, she will always be remembered as the center of her family and a vessel through which love flows.
