MARTHA DELLEY Obituary

Martha Ann Delley left us on June 9, 2020 at the age of 88 with her family by her side in Houston, Texas.

Martha was born May 25, 1931 in Caldwell, county to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Mosley Sr.   Her parents raised Martha, their 4th born, along with her four siblings, Viora, Gracie, Alice, and Willie Jr. in Bryant, Texas.

Martha attended and graduated high school in Bryan.  She went on to attend and graduate Nursing school in Bryan also.  Martha became a nurse, and retired as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, but not before she met and married the man of her dreams, Freddie Leon Delley.  Freddie and Martha married on July 11, 1950 in Brazos county.  Martha and Freddie traveled to and from Europe due to Freddie’s military call of duty.  Martha and Freddie had six children Ann, Carla, Laurie, Christia, Crystal, and a son who died at birth.  In addition to being a dedicated, awesome mother and wife while Freddie was deployed to combat in the Korean  and  Vietnam war, Martha was active in PTA, and the NCO Wives club while supporting  the Military chapel, and working part-time as a nurse.  When Freddie retired from the United States Army in 1974, the family settled in San Antonio, Texas where they became members of Crestview Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church.  Martha began her nursing career full-time at Our Lady of The Lake University where she joyfully cared for the retired nuns in the Catholic convent and became a long-time member of the Texas Nursing Association.    Martha later became a member of New Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she was a highly active leader, and served whenever, and wherever she was needed.  As a Pioneer Member of New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Martha was the Women’s Ministry leader, where she passionately led the Women’s Prayer Breakfast on many occasions.  Because of her hard work, in 2014 the Annual Women’s Ministry Prayer Breakfast was named the Martha A. Delley Prayer Breakfast.  In addition, Martha was a Christian Ministries member, Choir member, A Golden Age Ministry member, and earned Woman of The Year.  After retiring from Our Lady of The Lake University, Martha remained active in her church, volunteered in her community, sewing, gardening, watching her favorite basketball team the SPURS, and caring for her beloved Freddie until he passed away in 2001.

Martha was the last surviving member of her birth family.  She is survived by all her FIVE DAUGHTERS: Carthelya Ann Harris, Carla Michelle Hill, Freddie Laurie Jones, Christia Gertrude Nealy, and Crystal Arlene Holman. FOUR SON-IN-LAWS: Walter Hill, Lawrence Jones, Ennis Nealy, and Darcy Holman.  FOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Carl James Mason, Charles Drew Quarles Jr., LaKisha Farcey, and Nashaska Byrd, A host of Great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends.
