On April 12, 1934, Marceline Rucker was born to the union of John F Rucker and Nellie Young Rucker in San Antonio, Texas. She was the sixth child of twelve children which have all preceded her in death. She peacefully transitioned to her new home with the Lord on July 1, 2021 surrounded by her devoted children.
Marceline accepted Christ at an early age and was a dedicated and faithful member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 80 years. Her church ministries included; the Sanctuary Choir, Feed My Lamb Food Pantry, Pacesetters Senior Ministry and the United Methodist Women Reese-Radcliff Graves Circle where she served as Secretary.
She attended schools in the San Antonio Independent School District. Cuney Elementary, Douglass Middle School. She graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School Class of 1952 and was a Wheatly Lions cheerleader.
Marceline loved life, family and the San Antonio Spurs. One of her greatest attributes was to feed you and put a smile on your face. Her greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.
Marceline served in her community and participated in several organizations. They were The Wheatley Alumni Association, Eastside Neighborhood Housing Association, The Liberty Bell Charity Civic and Social Club, Iota Phi Lambda Sorority-Pelatis Auxiliary which was founded by Mrs. Bernice T Evans, Concerned People In Action , and served as Worthy Counsel the Grand Court Order of Calanthe St Cecelia Court #153.
Marceline had a passion for cooking. She worked at Texas Military Institute, a college-preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, as a Head Cook for 500 students and staff. She retired from TMI as Assistant Food Service Director after 30 years of service in 1998.
Marceline was united in marriage to Jim D Gipson on April 29, 1968. To this union no children were born.
Marceline hobbies included cooking, sewing, reading, catering for parties, weddings, family reunions, following the trail riders to rodeo events throughout Texas and playing the Biz Whist card game with friends.
Marceline was a true example of strength. Always willing to give of herself. Her family was her world and she taught them how to love and care for one another. Family was most important to her and she was loved by everyone she met.
Marceline leaves to cherish her memories, her loving children, John F Campbell (Colleen), Larry Campbell (Ruby), Brenda Hebert (George-her favorite Son-In-Law), Craig Alexander (Daisy), Renee Alexander, Ranon Alexander (Janice), 5 step-children, loving sister-cousin Jacquelyn Jordan, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Nellie Rucker, husband Jim D Gipson, and daughter Sandra C Benson.
The family is requesting donations to be made in the name of Marceline Rucker Gipson be sent to St Paul United Methodist Church her beloved Church (designating on the check that it is in her name for the Food Pantry):
