LaNell Adams Obituary

LaNell Conner Adams, 67, of San Antonio, gained her heavenly wings on April 12, 2021.

LaNell was born in San Antonio, Texas to Martin Conner, Jr. and Estella Kuykendall Conner on July 23, 1953.  She attended the San Antonio Independent School District, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School.  While attending Thomas Jefferson, LaNell became a founding member of the Thomas Jefferson High School Drill Team.  After attending San Antonio College, LaNell married and to this union, two children were born; Michael Christopher and Amber LaToi.

LaNell was a lifelong member of West End Baptist Church, giving her life to Christ in July 1962.  LaNell believed in serving in the church, and she served in the church until the very end.  Over the years, LaNell served as a Musician and a Youth Director.  She also served as a member of the Junior Women, the Mass Choir, and the West End Mission #2.  LaNell was also the Church Secretary.  Her continued commitment to serving the Lord led her to becoming the Treasurer for the Citywide Mission and playing the piano at Greater New Matthew Baptist Church.

LaNell worked for San Antonio Independent School District for 29 years; all of which were spent at Crockett Elementary School in the Special Education Department.  She also worked at the Boys & Girls Club Eastside Branch as the Musical Director.  While there, she formed what went on to be a nationally-known choir; singing at local air force bases and traveling the United Stated to sing at various events and functions.

LaNell touched the lives of many youth over the years.  Whether driving the church van around town with the youth of West End Baptist Church or spending nights and weekends helping the students at her school, she was forever committed to working with young people.  But, even in that, nothing made her prouder than being a mom and a Gran Gran.  She would often be heard saying “Michael and Amber are my greatest accomplishments”.

LaNell’s father, Martin Conner, Jr, mother, Estella Kuykendall Conner, brother, Anthony Bennett Conner, niece, Katrina Lynette Johnson, and cousin, Wanda Joyce “Joy” Evans preceded her in death.

LaNell was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and “Gran Gran”.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Michael Christopher Adams (Valeria) and daughter, Amber LaToi Hill (Joe, Jr.): siblings Evon Johnson (Michael), Kenneth Conner, Sr. (Kimberly), and Martin Conner, III (Patricia): Grandson, Ethan Marx Hill and granddaughter Ava London Hill: 8 nieces, 6 nephews, 4 great nieces, 9 great nephews, a very special “adopted” daughter and granddaughter, a host of cousins and friends, and many more she considered family.
