LYNNETTE DUKES Obituary

Lynnette L. Dukes (née Dixon) entered eternal rest peacefully and with her two daughters by her side at her home in Houston, Texas November 21, 2021. She was born in San Antonio, TX February 5, 1941, the daughter of Bernard and Alverna Dixon.

Mrs. Dukes graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School and attended Our Lady of the Lake University. She worked for the City of San Antonio for several years, then went on to a lengthy career in civil service at Kelly Air Force Base before retiring in 1993.

She confessed a belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in San Antonio. Mrs. Dukes’ family later joined Mount Zion First Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Claude W. Black Jr., Pastor Emeritus. She was active in the life of Mount Zion for decades and involved in a variety of ministries, including Sunday school as a youth, Usher Board, Youth Usher Board (advisor) Mission No. 8, and the church’s food bank. She served as president of Mission No. 8.

An avid reader of mystery novels, Mrs. Dukes loved great food, lively conversation, spending time with her grandchildren, sightseeing, crossword puzzles, and shopping.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Charles H. Dukes in August of 1965. Two children were born into this union. The couple was married for 54 years. Mrs. Dukes was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Janice Rundless, brother Gene A. Dixon Sr., and sister Lola B. Dixon.

Mrs. Dukes is survived in loving memory by her daughters Stephanie Dukes, Tasha (Robert) James, sister Verna Hardaway, and grandchildren Camille, Nicholas, Isaiah, and Matthew James, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
