Forever in our hearts, Luvenia D. Rogers was born on March 1, 1926 in Mexia, Alabama to Willie and Deanna Davidson Sr. Luvenia accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Luvenia and family moved to Mobile, Alabama. She was a member of Greater Nazaree Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor James Shelton. Luvenia was preceded in death by her husband, Girard V. Rogers (Joe), two sons, Michael E. Rogers and Willie J. Rogers, a grandson, Willie Compton Jr., her parents, Willie Davidson Sr. and Deanna Davidson Lambert, five brothers, Mason Davidson, Willie Davidson Jr., Robert Lambert, Charles Lambert, Roosevelt Lambert and four sisters, Tossie Hetherington, Josephine Rogers, Mary Asbury and Thomasine King. On August 15, 1968, when Brookley AFB, in Mobile, AL was slated to close, Girard's job was transferred to Kelly AFB, in San Antonio, TX. As a result, Girard, Luvenia and their children, moved to San Antonio, Texas. After arriving in San Antonio, she enrolled in a nursing class to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She also encouraged some of her friends to join her nursing class. Upon graduating, she worked at Morningside Manor Nursing Home for about a year. On June 30, 1969, Luvenia accepted a position at the Methodist Hospital where she worked in the Pediatric Department as a nurse’s aide. On March 29, 1991, she retired from the hospital and began private duty nursing where she cared for the elderly. On Sunday, September 29, 1968, Luvenia joined St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor S. H. Bedford Sr. She served faithfully as the children's Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Deaconess, President of the Nurse’s Aide Ministry, Mission Ministry, Youth Supervisor and Head Cook in the church's cafeteria. She enjoyed cooking with love. She was always willing to serve in whatever capacity that she was needed. She was a child of God with her BA (Born Again) Degree. Truly, she will be missed by all those who were blessed by her presence in their lives. Luvenia leaves to cherish her memory four children: George (Sylvia) Davidson, Detroit MI; Argie (Spencer) Eggleston, San Antonio TX; Frang (Harry) Monk, Clermont FL; Kennith (Pamela) Rogers, San Antonio TX; brother, Tedro (Gertrude) Lambert, Youngstown OH; sister, Annie Mary Adams, Cincinnati OH; goddaughter, Roselyn McCants, Birmingham AL; adopted children; Milton and Mary Whitehead and Charles and Julia Pryor; special friends, Arthur Philon and Mary Foreman of San Antonio TX; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
