LEVY JAMES, JR. Obituary

Life begins …..

      Levy James, Jr. was born on June 6, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas to parents Levy James and Elsie (Taylor) James. Levy was the first born and only son of six siblings, Patricia, Barbara, Jacqueline, Wanda and Dianne. As the first-born grandchild and only boy he spent a great deal of time with his grandparents, Joseph (Joker) and Annie James. One of Levy’s favorite ways to spend his time was with his family.  He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Napier at West Laurel Heights Methodists Church later he joined Palestine Baptist Church was baptized by Rev.  Crenshaw. In 1985 he united with Mount Zion First Baptist Church where he was a member of Mission #6, Sunday School Class #1 and the Brotherhood. Levy enjoyed organizing the Men’s Day Golf Tournament.

Life lived …..

      Levy grew up on the west side of San Antonio and was educated in the Edgewood School District. He attended Carver Elementary School and was a graduate of Edgewood High School. His college days were spent at St. Philips College (San Antonio), Texas Southern University (Houston), and he graduated from Saint Mary’s University (San Antonio).

      Levy played for the South Texas Negro baseball League as a San Antonio Black Sox. An avid lover of all sports he was a charter member of the San Antonio Caddy Shackers Golf Club. As a 42-year member Psi Alpha Chapter Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Levy enjoyed the many years he was able to plan, organize and play in the chapter’s annual golf tournament. In 1991 he was honored with being named the Psi Alpha Chapters Omega Man Of The Year.  For a few years Levy was a member and in 2009 President of The Courtiers Social Club.

     During the 1970s Levy was employed with San Antonio Parks and Recreation, in the 1980s he was employed with the Edgewood School District, East Side Boys and Girls Club and Southwest Texas State University. In 2008 Levy retired from the North East ISD but later returned to the district as a substitute teacher and to work for the NEISD Athletics Department.

Life ends …..

     On Saturday, November 14, 2020 his wife Carolyn and son Edgar traveled to Methodist Hospital to say their last goodbyes. Shortly afterwards Levy transitioned to the other side where there is no need for dialysis, no aching knees, no heart disease and no Covid-19, only complete rest. He is preceded in death by his loving grandparents, his parents and his oldest daughter Ginger Wesley.

Life goes on ……

     Levy is survived by Carolyn his wife of 36 years, his son Edgar Clardy, daughters Crystal James (New Orleans), Amber James (Atlanta), grandsons Edgar Jr. and Christopher. Sisters all living in San Antonio, Patricia Goodman, Barbara Donavan, Jacqueline Wade, Wanda (Paul) Jackson and Dianne James and aunt Bertha Adams. Many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
