On August 24, 1927, Leona Joshua entered into this life to father, William Allen and mother, Elisa Joshua in San Antonio, Texas.
She lived in times of limited education, but through God’s mercy and grace, her parents instilled in her a strong work ethic coupled with common sense. She was the last of the Baptist Settlement Movement.
She had six children. Two are still with us: Phillip and Evelyn; four that preceded her in death: Thelma Hudpeth, Billie Campbell, Hosey Allen, Pearlie Cox. She also had three grandchildren that preceded her in death. Two grandsons: Wayne and Ronnie and granddaughter, Laura Ann.
She began her own family in San Antonio and later moved to Detroit, Michigan with her husband. Once she moved her family back to San Antonio, she began working and enjoying much of life as she could.
She ran the EverKleen Motel for 25 years, later retiring to care for some of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even, great-great-grandchildren.
She took great joy in having her grandchildren around. Whatever she did, she always did it for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her grandchildren that she leaves behind are: Robert, Sr., Dora, Paula, Darren, Michelle, Toni, Tiana, Shawn, Ronnie, Tawana, Lawrence, Kenneth Ray; also her pride and joy Tanae, Vanae, Darlene, Rhonda Lou (great-grandchild) an a host of other great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Of course we cannot forget, Queenie, her dog and special companion.
Mama, you will be truly missed.
