JULIAS THOMPSON Obituary

Deacon Julias C. Thompson beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend was called to be with the Lord 10 July 2020. 

Deacon Thompson was the baby of the three boys born Roy and Johnnie B. Thompson on 20 September 1938 in Sweet Union (Cherokee County) Texas. He also has a sister. His father was a deacon at the Sweet Union Baptist Church and mother was on the mission board. Deacon Thompson accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized (in a creek). 

After graduating from high school in 1955, Deacon Thompson moved to Houston, Texas to attend Texas Southern University. In August 1959, Deacon Thompson enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving stateside, in Europe, returned to Texas Southern University and received his BA degree in May 1965. Deacon Thompson retired from the military 30 November 1980, with tours that included Vietnam and Korea. Deacon Thompson began a career with the United States Postal Service in May 1981 and retired from USPS 1 January 2001. 

Deacon Thompson married Theresa L. Bowie in September 1960 at the Cavalcade Baptist Church in Houston Texas in which they were both members. From this marriage was born five children, (three boys and two girls). In June 1977, Deacon Thompson married Evelyn Y. McPherson and they had one son. In October 2012, Deacon Thompson married Janett Banks. 

Deacon Thompson united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church 3 October 1976 under Pastor Roland Franklin leadership. In March 1985, Deacon Thompson rededicated his life to the service of the Lord. Deacon Thompson began his ministry, first as a youth teacher. In December 1985 Pastor Jerry W. Dailey became the new pastor of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church (Pastor Franklin passed June 1985). Deacon Thompson was ordained a deacon 11 February 1987. Under Pastor Dailey's leadership the Sunday School structure were reorganized and Deacon Thompson became the Outreach Evangelism Leader under the new structure in 1988 and later became the Sunday School Director. In January 2001, Deacon Thompson became Minister of Christian Education. He received his Master of Arts Degree in Christian Education from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary 6 May 2006. 

Deacon Thompson, in addition to his duties as a Deacon and Minister of Christian Education, he served as a volunteer in many areas of ministry; Protestant Lay Minister at Wilford Hall Medical Center for over ten years, children’s sponsor at Baptist Children and Family Services,
