JOYCE SHERMAN Obituary

Joyce A. Sherman was born on September 29, 1942 to the late Naomi Francis and Clifton Townsend in San Antonio, Texas where she attended public school.

Joyce married Milton L. Sherman and resided in Los Angeles, California.  Four children were born to this union, Rodney, Carmen, Annette and Yvonne.  Years later, Joyce returned to Texas and resided in Houston where her youngest son, Terry was born.  Joyce also cared for Lisa and James Jr. like they were her very own.  After relocating to San Antonio, Joyce worked multiple jobs while enrolled in the nursing program at St. Phillips College and while caring for her grandfather.  Her love for her children was demonstrated as she persevered through many obstacles until she graduated with her LVN license in 1979.  Joyce began employment as a nurse at the Nix Hospital in Pediatrics Labor and Delivery and retired after 29 years of service.

Joyce attended Thompson Chapel Church of God In Christ where the late Nathan L. Thompson was Pastor.  She later became a devoted member of Greater Evangelist Temple Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor C.W. Steward where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized.  Her faith and love for God grew and Joyce became eager to serve the Lord.  Joyce helped with the Hospitality Team when needed.  She sang in the Women’s Choir on third Sundays and on special occasions.  Mother Sherman was a member of the GET Mother’s Board and served faithfully as Pastor’s Aid President until her health declined.

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, parents and two of her sisters, Francine and Barbara Robinson.  She will forever be remembered by her children, Rodney Sherman, Sr. (wife, Dee) of San Antonio, TX, Carmen Watson (husband, Rodney) of San Antonio, TX, Annette Sherman of San Antonio, TX, Yvonne Sanders (husband, Keith) of San Antonio, TX and Terry Rosenthal (wife, Diane) of San Antonio, TX., Lisa Rosenthal of Fayetteville, NC and James Rosenthal Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Rodney Jr., Cortney, Avory, India, Sherman, Trenton and Tai; a great-granddaughter, Lailah; sisters Helen Brown, Kathy Dixon, Olivia Townsend; brother Terry Townsend (wife, Wenda) and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and family and friends.
