Jessie B. Taylor was born on December 30, 1919 to the late Jesse and Bessie Stephens in Gonzales, Texas. She was the oldest of six children that included two brothers and four sisters.
She attended school in Bay City, Texas. She later moved to San Antonio, Texas where she met and married Robert L. Taylor, Sr. in October 1951. They had over sixty-seven years of marriage.
She was the mother to three children, Doris Marie Walters Newton, Barbara Ann Taylor and Robert L. Taylor, Jr. who preceded her in death.
Jessie was a faithful member of Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She served as an Usher and was a member of the Courtesy Committee.
Jessie was a collector of unusual antiques and vintage items and was known all over town for her special gift in cooking. Affectionately called “Mama Jessie” by her grandchildren, family gathering was her delight. She cherished her relationships with her friends and neighbors. She loved to play dominoes as well as bingo. Well into her nineties, she could be found still playing and winning both regularly.
Jessie’s siblings Ruby Coleman, Mary Redeaux, Ivy Sue Grissett, Nelson Stephens and Charles Stephens all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Barbara Ann Taylor and Doris Marie Newton (Vernon), granddaughter, Giovanni Charon Neal of Florida; grandson, William E. Bee (Shirlene) of Schertz, TX; six great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
