Jerry L. Roebuck, age 81, of Live Oak, TX, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Northeast Methodist Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C. to the late Ernest Roebuck and Vera Estelle Gillard Roebuck. Jerry had been a resident of Live Oak, TX for the past 36 years.
He was educated in the Bridgeport, CT school system, where he graduated from Bassick High School. While attending Bassick, Jerry was a star baseball player, one of the numerous sports he enjoyed playing and excelled.
Immediately following graduation, Jerry enrolled into the military, enlisting into the US Air Force. He attended the Community College of the Air Force and earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science. He worked in the capacity of Lead Contract Specialist for the Defense Commissary Agency and the Department of Defense for a total of 44 years.
Jerry came out of retirement and worked an additional 16 years for the Civil Service for the Defense Commissary as a Contracting Officer for the Disabled American Veterans. He also served as Chaplain for DAV Chapter 128, 2nd Jr. Vice Commander and 1st Jr. Vice Commander, from 1995 until his transition home.
As a devoted disciple of Christ, Jerry joined and became a member of the Second Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX (Rev. Dr. Robert L. Jemerson, Pastor). Jerry loved serving the Lord and his church, where he served in many ministries; Board of Trustees, member of the Men’s Chorus, CD Ministry, Senior Usher Board, Hospitality Committee and a chaperone for the Youth Ministry, on occasions.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Toyoko Nakagima Roebuck; two daughters, Rhonda Mikina Roebuck and Rene’ Ann Roebuck; four grandchildren, Dejanira Rene Lamkin, Omar Nesbitt, Thaddeus Crum all of San Antonio, TX and Tyrai Deshone Stewart (Shekinah) of Spangdahlem, Germany; two brothers, David Owen Roebuck (Frances) of Connecticut and Kenneth Neal Roebuck (Carrie) of Georgia.
Preceding him in death are his grandson, Ronald Lee Roebuck; brothers, Jesse Arnold Roebuck, Richard Arden Roebuck and Ronald Roebuck and one sister, Carol Frances Roebuck.
