On May 29, 1945, in Belzoni, Mississippi, James Porter Cade, Jr. was the 1st of two children born to Mary Lou (Mae) Woodard and James (Jimmy) Porter Cade, Sr.  He is the eldest of 10 other children born to Mary Lou and Needum Charles (N.C.) Taylor, Sr. and 6th oldest of his 21 siblings. 

He departed this life on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, surrounded by his children.

James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very young age.  He was a faithful and dutiful member of East St. Paul UMC for 56 years until his passing and a member of the Care Bexar Emmaus Community.

James attended grade school in the Mississippi delta and graduated from Lanier High School - Class of 1964, in Jackson, Mississippi. He was married to his wife, Jeannette Roberts Cade for 47 years, until her passing in September 2015.  Two children were born to this union, Derrick DaMon and Tonisha Mah-Jeanne.

James was a United States Air Force Retired Veteran.  After retiring, he worked at Bexar County Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. (BCOIC) for over 15 years working with youth and adults.  He loved singing, hunting, fishing, bowling, and photography.  He was also a proud member of the Beta Beta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. for 32 years.

James is survived by his 2 children, 11 surrogate children, 2 Goddaughters, 2 surrogate Godsons, a surrogate mother, 3 surrogate grandsons, 20 siblings, 1 sister-n-law, 1 aunt-n-law, a great niece, & 2 nephews, and a multitude of other dear and close relative and friends.
