IDABELLE MILES Obituary

Idabelle "Ida" Miles was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 18th, 1942 to Van Q. Miles and Ida Mae Haley. Ida was the 4th out of 7 children.

Ida was married to Joseph H. Miles (deceased) for 26 years.

Ida had a broad career that included being a Licensed Vocational Nurse, a Respiratory Therapist, and an Air Craft Mechanic.

Ida's true passion was raising her family and helping others. Ida has 4 children April, Powell, Gary Smith, Daniel C. Smith, and Tony Magee. In addition to raising her children she was active grandmother who spent as much as time possible with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ida was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for over 40 years. Ida served in various roles and positions in the Knights of Peter Claver (KPC) Ladies Auxiliary, KPC 4th Degree Ladies of Grace, Ladies Sodality, and Sister to Sister. Ida had a great zest for life and for giving back. Ida was regularly recognized within her community and in 2019 was named Woman of the Year by the Sister to Sister organization. Ida also received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2016 from Catholic Charities. Ida served for many years in the Claver Kitchen providing meals to the homeless, did telebanking at election time for numerous elections, and regularly volunteered at church events at functions, especially those focused on supporting the youth. Ida was known as gumbo aficionado and was the first winner of the Taste of New Orleans, which she competed in and won for over 20 years.

Ida is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, brothers Van and Freddy, sister Anita, and many cherished friends and relatives. Ida's legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many lives she touched.
