IDA LEE HOLMES

Ida Lee Holmes was born in Orange Texas, to Oliva Reado and Bennie Broxton Sr, on 20 July 1937. Due to having to work with her mother in the cotton fields, she only completed the 7th grade. Those who knew her well would attest that her Christian life clearly demonstrated the attributes of having achieved a Masters in the fruits of the spirit. She married Harrell E. Holmes Sr., on the 23rd of November 1953, in Houston Texas. She was a devoted wife to Harrell Sr. for 70 years, keeping the family together during her husband’s deployments during the Korean conflict, and two tours of duty in the Vietnam war. Ida was a loving Daughter, Wife, Mother, Sister, Grand Mother and Great-Grand Mother.

Ida was baptized into the Lord’s Church, on the same day as her husband, at Trinity Gardens Church of Christ, in Houston, under the teaching of the late Brother M. C. Daniels. Upon returning from Germany, in 1963, Ida and her husband placed membership with the Coliseum Pack Church of Christ. She worked in numerous ministries, to include teaching Sunday school, Saturday door knocking, youth mentoring, visiting the sick, and the food ministry. Her home was always open to those in need, be it short or long term. She attended many minister conferences and shared her wisdom with the singles ministry. She was a faithful member with attendance and giving.

Ida is preceded in death by her parents/ siblings (Bennie Brotxon Jr, Clayton Broxton, Daughter Sharron Holmes, and twin sons who died shortly after birth in 1957.

Ida is survived by her husband Harrell Sr, sister Dorothy, sons Harrell Jr., Dwayne and wife Renee, Terry Sr., Tommy and wife Kirtrinia.

Grand Children

Tamika, Brent and wife Tanya, Demetria, Whitney and husband Justin, Terry Jr., Shareen and husband Miles Jr., Karilee and husband Eric, Demarius, Jasmine, Deon, and Ashley. 

Great Grandchildren

Jamarie Jr, Kalynn, Kylee, Anthony, Lilly, Ezekiel, Riann, Kaidyn, Morgan, Grayson, Landon, Anaiya, Arilynn, Adalaya, Azariah, Kyran, Koah, Kaliyah, Ella Grace, Terry III, Terrielle, Annissa, and Antonio.

Nieces and Nephews

Richard, Renee, Donte, Janice, Bruce, Angela, Randle, Ralph, Michael, and Cynthia.
