Official Obituary of

November 27, 1932 ~ February 21, 2024 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Horace L. Bland was the 4th child of four children born to the late John Phillip Bland and the late Virginia Bessie Towler in Stage Junction, Virginia on November 27, 1932. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized. He received his formal education and graduated from High School.

Horace later joined the United States Air Force. He first worked as an airplane mechanic, then later as Head of the Motor Pool where he obtained the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was stationed in San Antonio, TX at the Medina Air Force Base. After serving in the military for over 20 years including tours of duty in Viet Nam and France, Horace retired. He later became employed with H.B. Zachery Construction Co., where he obtained the position of Foreman and worked there for over 30 years. After retiring from there, he took on a job at a car wash, just to keep busy. Idleness was certainly not his behavior.

Horace met and married Bessie Miller and along with his two children, Barbara and Francisco Renaldo (Frankie), they became a blended family with her two children James and Delores. He was a loving and caring husband and father. He worked hard and the welfare of his family meant the most to him. He was kind and would always offer a helping hand to a relative or friend in need. His true love and compassion for others was an asset and will be greatly missed.

Horace was an avid mechanic and loved working on cars. He could fix/repair anything. He was a sports enthusiast and really enjoyed watching sports on TV.

Horace was a faithful member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Church Trustee, Usher, and Janitor until his health declined.

On February 21, 2024, Horace answered the Lord's call and made the transition from life here on earth to be with the Lord, await HIS return and spend eternality in Heaven.

Horace was preceded in death by a son Francisco Renaldo Miller, a grandson, Jakori Perry, parents, siblings, and a son-in-law, Frank Harrison Perry, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of over 60 years, Bessie Bland; three children; James Miller, Delores Miller-Perry, and Barbara Bland; three grandchildren, Pamela Miller Dial (Christopher Sr.), Bryan Keith Miller (Janera), and Frank Harrison Perry, Jr. (Stella); eight great-grandchildren, Christopher Dial, Jr., Amaya Dial, Kendall Miller, Reagan Miller. Levi Perry, Georgia Perry, Ryan Perry, and Kori Perry; a grand-daughter-inlaw, Natalie Perry; a sister-in-law, Jo Marie Grayson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
