On May 5, 1947, a beautiful baby boy was born to Herbert and Annie Lacy; they named him Herbert Lacy, Jr. Herbert confessed his love for Christ and was baptized at a very early age at Grant Memorial AME, under the leadership of the late Rev. Stedmaham.

Herbert received his formal education from Grant Elementary, Dunbar Junior High and Brackenridge High School, In 1965, Herbert enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for 4 years with tours at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas and Vietnam. In 1970, he attended and graduated from Shaw's Barber College.

In 2004, Herbert attended Hallmark University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Real Estate.

In 2012, Herbert united with Bethel United Methodist Church, where he became a co-laborer in God's vineyard; he had an encouraging word and a friendly smile for all he met along the way. His gentle nature radiated love, cheerfulness, patience, kindness and hospuality. He was always patient regardless of what his physical suffering might be. He loved to cook and was always preparing nurturing meals to help in support if the Church's endeavors. He served as Chair of the Trustee board, and because if the work he did, on October 30, 2014, Herbert was chosen as Man of the Year. His deeds stand out like diamonds that brightly gleam; he was a source of encouragement to all who worked with him.

On Sunday, October 20, 2019, Herbert answered his heavenly  call and left his earthly home to be with his Father in Heaven. He was preceded in death by his Father, Herbert Lacy; Mother, Annie Louise Lacy; Wife, Guadalupe Lacy; Son, Jeffrey Lamont Lacy; Step-son, Brian Boone; and Niece, Melba Louise Richardson.
