GEORGENE BIAS Obituary

Georgene Irene Bias was the last born to the late Henry Ross Sr. and Eula Ross on April 1, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas. 

Georgene graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1943.  She then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1947.  She continued her education and received a Masters of Education Degree in 1953 from Prairie View A&M University and a Masters Degree in Library Science from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1973.   In 1982, Dr. Bias received a Doctorate Degree in Education with strengths in Library Science from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Dr. Bias dedicated her life towards a passionate pursuit of educational excellence.  She continued her success by receiving educational certifications and was then listed in National and International Who’s Who for Library and Information Science.

Georgene met and married her late husband James Louis Bias in 1947, through that union they were blessed with two beautiful children.  Her career began as a substitute teacher and later as a teacher for Veterans Basic Education in the public schools in Victoria, Texas.  In 1955 she and her family moved to San Antonio and she began substitute teaching for the San Antonio Independent School District.  In 1959, Georgene launched her illustrious career as a Librarian at St. Philips College, attaining the rank of Professor and Head Librarian. 

Upon retirement, a citation from the City of San Antonio was presented to Dr. Bias in recognition of the many years of dedication to the teaching profession.  She was in the educational field for 27 years.  She received the title of Professor Emeritus of the Learning Resource Center at St. Philips College Library in recognition of her long and distinguished service to the institution.

Georgene cherished her relationships with her friends and family. She was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Alpha Tau Omega Chapter.  She devoted her life to family, friends, continued education and had a passion for travel.  She was a faithful member of East St. Paul United Methodist Church of San Antonio.

Georgene is survived by her daughter, Sandra Booker, son James Bias, grandchildren, Andrel Johnson, Robert Jerel Booker, Toni Bias Fletcher and Jennifer Bias Johnson. She leaves behind six great grandchildren, Andrel Johnson Jr, Dominick Johnson, Joshua Johnson, McCoy Booker, Haviland Booker and Amiyah Johnson.
