FRED GREENWOOD Obituary

On April 1, 1939, Fred Greenwood was born to the union of the late James Greenwood, Sr. and Ida Mae Greenwood, in Waelder, Texas.

At a young age, Fred confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by his grandfather, the late Rev. Thomas Greenwood, at the Mt. Eden Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Eden, Texas.

The family relocated to San Antonio when Fred was a young child and he attended school in the San Antonio Independent School District.

Fred began working in his early teens to assist his parents in supporting the family, working at St. Gerard Catholic School and Hertz Rental Car.

In the early 1950's, Fred relocated to San Francisco, California to live with his sister, the late Ora C. Greenwood-Nunley. He was employed as a contractor building new homes in the San Francisco Bay Area. After several years in San Francisco, Fred moved back home to San Antonio, Texas. He remained employed until the early 1970's, when his health began to decline.

Fred loved being around family. He looked forward to attending the bi-annual Greenwood-Hicks-Mitchell family reunions, dating back to 1978, which allowed him time to connect and fellowship with his family.

He also loved serving the Lord. Fred joined the Lilly of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Male Chorus and Mass Choir, until his health began to fail.

Fred was also an active member of the District 2 Senior Citizens Center of San Antonio, where he was well known and loved to fellowship with other seniors, until his health wouldn't permit him to attend.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Greenwood, Sr. & Ida Mae Greenwood; siblings, Ora C. Greenwood-Nunley, Ora Mae Greenwood-Johnson, James Greenwood, Jr., James "DeRoy" Greenwood, Alma Dean Greenwood-Holland, Dorothy Mae Greenwood-Webber, Lester Greenwood, Sr. and Eddie Ray Greenwood.

Fred transitioned from his earthly tabernacle on April 26, 2020. He leaves to cherish his memory his twin sons, Kevin (Marian] Hyson and Keith (Odessa) Hyson; grandchildren, Drevon (Kim) Stanford, Ketevia Hyson, Oshanna Jarmon, Ocheaytal Hyson, Kevin Hyson, Jr., Keith Hyson, Jr., Kemara Hyson and Kevon Hyson; brothers, Lawrence (Patricia) Greenwood and Preston (Dawn) Greenwood; sister-in-law, Tia Greenwood; his only living aunt, Betty Greenwood, six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, the funeral service will be private.
