July 24, 1926 ~ June 20, 2020 (age 93)


Fannie L. Gray, affectionally known as “Pete”, was born July 24, 1926, in Fentress, Texas to Bobby Vernal Gray and Jessie Viola Armstrong Gray. Fannie was preceded in death by her parents and sisters; Anna Kate Wilson, Corine L. Banks, and Tommie L. Ford.

She attended elementary school in Fentress, Texas and secondary school in Prairie Lea, Texas. She graduated from Sweet Home high School in Sweet Home, Texas. She also attended Prairie View A&M University for a short time.

Fannie served proudly in the United States Army for 27 years. One of her proudest accomplishments was achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. During her time in the army she served as an admin specialist and also did a stint at Walter Reed Army Medical Center along with many other jobs. She also served two tours in Vietnam in the early 1970s. Her army career afforded her the opportunity to travel to many places throughout the world including Japan, Australia, Holland, and Germany. She retired in 1981.

Fannie was a long time member of St. Paul United Methodist church for nearly 40 years. During this time she faithfully served in many capacities including member of the senior choir, United Methodist Women and the Senior Ministry.

In her spare time, Fannie enjoyed gardening and planning family gatherings. She could always be found working in her backyard. She loved to cook for family and tell of her life experiences. She was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan.

On June 20, 2020, the Lord called Fannie home. She leaves to cherish many family members including, brother, Bobby Gray (Mary); nephews, Willie Wilson, Charles Wilson (Frankie), Avery Ford, Arnold Ford, and Reginald Gray (Simeri); nieces, Rheba Wilson, Donna Ford Mauer (Mark) and a host of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
