EVA MAYES Obituary

Eva Mae Polk Mayes was the youngest child born to Willie Polk Sr. and Cozetter Polk (preceded her in death) on July 16, 1922 in Leon County, Leona Texas.

She attend public school in Leon, Texas. At an early age she got saved and filled with the Holy Ghost under the leadership of the late Elder Lon Evans who was the founder of Wilson Chapel COGIC Leona Texas. "To Keep the Faith" She was a faithful Prayer Warrior. Mother Mayes has a Spiritual Gift in "Prophecy".

After servicing his time in the US Army, Lee O. Mayes Sr. returned back to his home town and on March 27, 1946, he married Eva Mae Polk and nine children were born; that included three sets of twins. Four children preceded them in death. The family later moved to San Antonio, Texas.

Mother Mayes continued her Christian life and joined Joy Temple COGIC now know as Greater Joy Temple COGIC. She joined under the founder Elder Otto Williams and continued her faith under the Late Elder Paul Robinson, and the late Superintendent Ruben Igelhart who renamed the church Alpha Joy Temple COGIC. Mother Mayes continued faithfulness under Pastor Duane Hammons and Pastor Edward Kemper who renamed the church Greater Joy Temple COGIC and present Pastor Dewey Johnson.

 In 2011 Mother Mayes health began to fail causing her not to attend as much as she would like to. For many years she served as the President of the Sewing Circle for the San Antonio District. Mother Mayes was also a House Wife, home maker that love to cook and feed the surrounding. She was a babysitter as well a seamstress.

Mother Mayes was one long life "Legacy". She was a Woman of Wisdom and Knowledge. She trusted in God and kept the Faith. She made friends where ever she went. Her favorite song was "Hold on Little While Longer" and "I'm a Living Testimony".

 On March 2, 2020 at the age of 97yrs, 7 months and 15 days, Mother Mayes transitioned home surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee O. Mayes, four daughters and one son. She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Arnetta Battle (Johnnie), Unetter Battle, Corine Tubbs, 1 son Lee O. Mayes Jr. (Sarah) and 1 God Daughter, Billie Jean Harris, ten Grandchildren, one Grandson preceding her in death, Frederick Gratton(Anitra), 2 Great God daughters, Tatiana Blue and Mona Lisa Harris, nineteen Great Grandchildren, two Great Great  Grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.

Mother Mayes leaves with us all the Amazing Legacy of her as a Warrior, Faith and Wisdom, She will forever be loved, remembered and deeply missed.
