Ernest McClure was born on September 10, 1929 to the parents of Rev. William McClure and Rilla B. McClure in Yoakum, Texas. He received his early education in the Yoakum School System, graduating from Asberry High School in 1948. Upon graduating from high school Ernest moved to San Antonio to attend St. Philip’s College. While attending St. Phillips, Ernest secured a part time job at Lackland Air Force Base Officers’ Club. After receiving an associate degree from St. Phillip’s, he moved to Austin and attended two years at Houston Tillotson College before being drafted into the United States Army. After finishing his tour of duty in the army, he returned to The Officer’s Club as a fulltime employee where he retired after fifty years of employment.
Ernest was preceded in death by his Parents Rev. William McClure, Sr. and Rilla Beatrice McClure and Mr. Lawrence Henderson (Step-Father),
He was also preceded in death by his brothers Rev. Vernon McClure, Paul L. McClure, Warren G. McClure, James C. McClure, Thessalonia McClure, and William McClure II. His sisters who preceded him were Louvella Ware and Marjorie D. Hodges.
Ernest leaves to mourn for him, his loving wife of fifty-three years, Hazel, daughter, April Bennett, twin sons Ernest K. McClure and Errol W. McClure and his wife Nicole, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, Brothers: Clarence McClure (Maxine), Robert McClure (Wandalyne), Charles McClure (Delores), Sisters: Barbara Fortson (Joe), Fannie McClure (James) and a host of relatives and friends.
Ernest joined St. Paul in 1968 where he gratefully served in many ministries, including his beloved United Methodist Men’s organization. He was also a dedicated member in the Yoakum Asberry Alumni Association.
