Elmo James Roberts, Jr. was the 1st child born to Elmo Sr. & Norvella Roberts on July 2, 1939 in San Antonio, TX.  Elmo was preceded in death by both parents, Elmo Sr. & Norvella Roberts and one brother, Leonard Roberts.

Elmo received his early education from Saint Peters Claver Academy in San Antonio, TX.  After graduating high school from Saint Peters Claver Academy, Elmo furthered his education at Prairie View A&M University.  While at Prairie View A&M, Elmo was a member of the ROTC.  After graduating from college in 1960, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army.  He quickly ascended to 1st Lieutenant. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Military, Elmo relocated to Washington D.C.

While in Washington D.C. Elmo had various jobs.  While working as a Waiter at the Hyatt Regency, Elmo decided to go back to college.  He attended District of Columbia Community College where he received a degree in Computer Programming.  After receiving certification in Computer Programming, Elmo worked for the United States Census Bureau. 

Elmo wasn’t fond of the cold Winters in the Washington D.C. Area.  He yearned to be near to and aid his brother Charles Roberts (Cold Steak) who was beginning to experience declining vision.  He decided to move back to Texas.  While in Austin, Elmo worked for 20 plus years as a Computer Programmer for the State of Texas; retiring in 2001. 

Elmo James Roberts, Jr. united in holy matrimony to Janice Faye Brown on August 5, 1983. To this union 1 child was born, Charles “Cha-Chi” Roberts, Sr. Elmo & Janice have cherished 35 years of life & love together. Through thick and thin, they remained as one unshakeable and unmovable couple.

Elmo accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He & Janice united with Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Gerald Tollivar.

Elmo loved Jazz.  He witnessed many great Jazz Musicians in the DC Area to include: John Coltrane, Gene Almonds, Sonny Stitt, and many more.

 Other hobbies also included playing golf. Elmo was also an avid Sports Fan.  He kept up with football (college & pro), basketball (college & pro), baseball, golf, and tennis.  

Elmo James Roberts, Jr. peacefully departed this life on Thursday, December 20, 2018.

Those left to cherish the memories are: wife, Janice F. Roberts of Austin, TX; Two children: Marcus D. Brown (Quitta) of Chickasha, OK. & Charles M. Roberts, Sr. of Austin, TX.; Two brothers:  Charles “Cold Steak” Roberts (Dorothy) of San Antonio, TX; Raymond Greenwood of Las Vegas, NV.; Four grandchildren: Brittany, Marcus, Jr., Xavier Brown and Charles M. Roberts, Jr. –  Elmo shared a very special relationship/bond with Charles Jr. and great-grandchildren include: Bryson & Aseem.  He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
