Dr. Linda Janet Holley was born on June 28, 1954 in Prince George County, Virginia to Clement Holley and Dimple Grant. From a young age, Linda knew her destiny. Her ambition was to provide health care to children. In order to accomplish her goal, at the age of 7, she decided to become a doctor. Linda was raised in Houston, Texas. After graduating from high school, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where she also completed her Pediatric residency.
After graduation she and her current partner of 35 plus years, Dr. Dianna Burns-Banks, decided the eastside of San Antonio was in need of pediatricians to serve that particular sector of the city. Together they opened East San Antonio Pediatric Care, later to be known as South Texas Center for Pediatric Care. Her medical practice grew from a single office located on Houston Street to multiple offices throughout the city and surrounding areas, As the growth continued, a third partner, Dr. Daniel Trevino joined the practice.
Throughout her 40 year career as a practicing pediatrician, Dr. Holley has provided compassionate medical care to thousands of children in the San Antonio community. She enjoyed the “hands on” aspect of her job and she truly loved her patients. She had a personality that brought comfort and joy to her young patients. In fact, she became respectfully known to them as “Doc McStuffins," a title taken from a young animated African American girl that communicates with and heals broken toys and stuffed animals. Dr. Holley’s primary goal and objective was to provide “the best” medical health care to the children she served.
Dr. Holley was a Fellow in the Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the Texas Pediatric Society, the Bexar County Medical Society, and the Texas Medical Association. She belonged to the C.A. Whittier Medical Society and was an active supporter of its mentoring programs for future African American physicians. She served as a Clinical Adjunct Professor for the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine and a preceptor for medical students and Nurse Practitioner students from both University of Texas Health Science Center at Arlington and the University of the Incarnate Word. She was honoured by the Black Nurses Association as the “Pediatrician of the Year."
For many years, she served as the Girls Scouts of America Assistant Troop Leader for St. PJ’s, Children’s Home. Dr. Holley was a member of 1st Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, Reverend Gary Charles, Pastor.
Dr. Holley is survived by her husband, Lon Taylor; sister, Clemercy Whaley and brother, Johnny Glenn Holley, nephews Christopher and Brian Whaley, and a host of other family members.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Clement Holley and Dimple Grant, whom she loved and cared for dearly. Linda will always be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to family, friends and community, her bright and endearing smile, her cheerful energy, captivating personality and her dedication to the betterment of others. She will be missed by all.
