April 29, 1960 ~ February 22, 2020 (age 59)

Donald De'Sha Ashley aka Sha' was born April 29, 1960 to John and Carolyn Ashley. Always the life of any party, you knew when he showed up at your event. He was very much a social butterfly and when you met him, you never forgot him. He was always the same person yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Sha' was always very entertaining with his stories and particularly entertaining with his impersonations of people he knew along with actually acting out some of the characters of his stories. He also loved his family like you wouldn't believe. Some of the younger kids might even be afraid of him in the beginning, particularly with his deep but raspy voice, but "Uncle Sha" seemed to always win them over. He used words and phrases that were his and his only. The "Onliest one", "Eerybody, Eerybody", and "It's gone be a misunderstanding" were just a few of them.

Sha' spent time in the US Army. He also worked for the City Water Board, known today as San Antonio Water Systems or SAWS. More intelligent than most people gave him credit for, Sha' held various positions in various professions throughout his working career. His last position was as a bus driver for the Judson Independent School District. He always entertained everyone at family gatherings with his stories about "his kids". And I do mean entertained. The family laughed uncontrollably at some of his stories. Those students truly held a special place in his heart. They loved Mr. Sha'.

An avid sports fan, he was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. If you showed up at his man cave, there was always sports on TV and old school music playing in the background. Though somewhat small in stature, he participated in sports and held his own. He loved playing softball with various teams around the city but his favorite team he played on was the 40oz Gang. No matter what sports were on TV he would be watching them.

Sha' leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 20 years, Gail Ashley his father John Ashley, and his daughter BreAnn Ashley (John Paul). Stepchildren Brandy Watson and Brandon Watson also mourn his passing. He also leaves his siblings Cynthia Crandle (Roderick), Audrey Ashley, Robin Jones, Rhodena Matthews, Patti Matthews, Kenneth Matthews Jr., Brian Matthews (Iris), Camille Dillard, Chris Hampton, aka Money and LaMonte Collier to cherish his memory along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who are really just like family. Sha' was probably closest to his uncles Palus (Mo) Clack and Curtis Clack. He was proceeded in death by his mother Carolyn Matthews and his stepfather Kenneth Matthews.
