Desmer Benson, Jr., the first child of Claudell and Desmer Benson, Sr., was born October 29, 1946 in San Antonio, Texas. He went home to be with the Lord on January 8, 2020. He attended public schools and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1965. He subsequently graduated from St. Mary's University in 1969 with a B.A. Degree in Education and received his Master's of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of Lake University in 1993. Desmer taught in the Northside Independent School District for over 30 years and was a Counselor at O' Connor High School when he retired. During his career he served as President of the Northside Independent Teacher's Association, ( 1982- 83), President of the Northside Counselors Association 1995-1996. He enjoyed skating and was a speed roller-skate coach to athletes who participated in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney Australia.
Desmer enjoyed traveling, bowling and meeting people. He was believer in Jesus Christ. He loved the Lord and served Him throughout his life and was a faithful member of the Metropolitan Church.
Desmer was preceded in death by his Father, Desmer Benson Sr., Sister, Linda Benson Christy (former teacher and principal in NISD) and Mother, Claudell Bailey Benson. He leaves to cherish his memory his Brothers: Rev. Dr Ronald Benson (Lillian), and Michael Benson; Niece, Claire Lynn Christy, Nephew Sterling A. Christy, III and wife Lethy; great niece and great nephews.
Services will be held Friday, January 17, 2020 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethany First Baptist Church, 202 Noblewood Drive 78220.
