DELORES KING Obituary

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121: 1-2 (Her favorite bible verse)

Delores P. King was born on December 19, 1925 to Lamar and Alma Powell. She was educated in the public schools in Lower Peachtree, Alabama. Being the only girl with two brothers, Delores learned to navigate beforehand the wearies of this world by entrusting her faith and life to the Lord. She was married to her first husband Bernard Stallworth, and to this union two children were born. She was later remarried to Charlie E. King, and they were blessed with ten children. She became a devoted Deaconess at the First Baptist Church in Prichard, Alabama, under Rev.C.H. Peterson.

In the summer of 1967 Delores and her family relocated to San Antonio, Texas. Shortly after her move to Texas, she joined The Rose of Sharon Baptist Church under Rev.B.B. Stewart and continuing her duties as a Deaconess. She worked in hospitality services for twenty-one years, and eventually retired in the early 1990’s from Villa Rosa Hospital. She valued hard work and dedicated her life to her children, as well as her grandchildren who eventually gave her the name of “Mama Lois.”

She persevered through many hardships throughout her life, giving a new meaning to vitality and strength. Delores was the pure essence of love and compassion, a person who made everyone around her feel secure because she always welcomed you. Delores was loved by so many, and she will be dearly missed by many, many more. Although her physical body has left us, her spirit and legacy will forever remain dear to our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her father Lamar Powell, her mother Alma Powell, her daughter Dorothy Mosley, and her son Charles E. King.

She leaves to cherish her memories, five sons: Bernard (Versa) Stallworth, Melvin King, Herman King, Billie (Paula) King, Roscoe King; five daughters: Annie Ruth (Herbert) Mouton, Alma Jackson, Brenda (George) Dirden, Wanda (Cubert) Young, and Letrice King. Thirty-one grandchildren, a host of great-grand children, and a host of other relatives and friends.
