DEACON JAMES BEVERLY Obituary

Deacon James Arthur Beverly was born on October 23, 1932, in Bryan, Texas to the late Phillip Beverly, Sr., and A. C. McMurray Beverly. Deacon Beverly departed this life on December 9, 2023, at the blessed age of 91. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas.

Deacon Beverly moved to San Antonio where he met and fell in love with the love of his life, Allaree Harvey. They were joined in holy matrimony, and to this union 3 children were born, Charles, Gregory and Cheryl.

Deacon Beverly was a faithful member of the New Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. J. Carlton Allen, Sr., for many years. He later moved his membership to Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Emmett W. Smith, Sr., where he was sworn in and served as a Deacon. He continued to serve under the leadership of Rev. Michael R. Richardson until his health began to fail.

Deacon Beverly was a kind man and never hesitated to be of service to anyone in need. He was a true man of God and stood ready to be of service wherever and whenever needed. Not only was he the church’s ”Mr. Fix-It”, he served as President of the Usher Board, and was a financial officer on the Finance Committee. Deacon Beverly always stood ready to repair someone’s vehicle when the need arose. He truly enjoyed worshiping, praising and thanking God at every opportunity, as well as spending quality time with his family. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and father-in-law, who loved and lived life to the fullest.

Deacon Beverly was preceded in death by his wife, Allaree; parents, Phillip Beverly, Sr., and A. C. Beverly; sisters, Robbie L. Thornton, Doris E. Scott, Frankie L. Dunmon, Mary Pearl Green, and Willie Joyce Mitchell; brothers, Phillip Beverly, Jr., A.B. Beverly, Alvin Beverly and L.C. Beverly.
