Official Obituary of

January 27, 1956 ~ February 22, 2024 (age 68) 68 Years Old

On January 27, 1956, Herman Lamkin, Sr. was born to his parents Robert and Edna Lamkin, who preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, J.D. Lamkin (Bessie), his sisters, Gertie M. Wilson (Woodrow) and Gloria Jenkins (Alfred).

In 1974, He graduated from Seguin High School. After graduation, he worked as a photographer for a local newspaper, the Seguin Gazette. Herman was a hardworking young man and received many accolades for his accomplishments in this position. On February 27th, 1983, he married the love of his life, Blenda Watson.  With a growing family, Herman decided to seek employment with Xerxes Corporation. He was employed at the Xerxes plant in Seguin from 1978 to 2023 when his health began to fail.  He worked for Xerxes 45 years where he moved up the ranks and became a supervisor for the company.

Herman was a true Servant of God who gave his life to Christ at an early age.  He was an active member of the Greater Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church in Seguin, TX. Following in his father’s footsteps, at age 13 He was appointed Superintendent of the Sunday School, serving in this capacity for approximately 40 years. His natural leadership abilities and love of the Lord played an important role in him being ordained as a Deacon at the age of 22.  Later in his Christian journey, Herman moved his membership to Temple Missionary Baptist Church, San Antonio, TX where he served under the leadership of Rev. Ronald L. Glover.  Later He and his family became members of Calvary Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX under the leadership of Pastor Kevin L. Nelson. There he continued to serve God with love and sincerity until his final days. He believed that your heart should be a direct reflection of your dedication and love for Christ.

While he was a gentle soul, and had a kind word for everyone he met, he was firm in his conviction. He believed in leading by example and played a key role in introducing his family to Christ and ensuring they had a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior.  His love of music afforded him opportunities to praise God in song.  His children were his biggest fans and soon his three-year old son (Herman Jr.) and seven-year-old daughter (Vanessa), joined him as they formed the musical group, the Lampkin Family singers. Later the group expanded to include three more family members. They gained notoriety throughout South Texas for their soul-stirring singing and dedication to spreading the gospel.  When he wasn’t singing God’s praises, you could find him shooting the breeze with family and friends during a friendly game of dominoes.  Smiles and laughter were always in the air when he was around.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  his loving wife, Blenda Lamkin, adoring children Aaron Woods, Vanessa Lampkin, Herman Lampkin, Jr., his loving grandsons, Tyris Franklin, Javen Woods, and granddaughter, India Byrd, his adoring sisters and brothers, Berta Wilson (Paul deceased), Robert Lamkin Jr. (Shirley), Alvin Lamkin (Erica), Frances Jackson (Gordon), Mary Holmes (Bruce, Sr.) and Steven Lamkin.  He also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and family friends.
