COURTENAY SANDERS Obituary

I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34, verse 1

Courtenay Elaine Sanders was born on June 6, 1965, in San Antonio, Texas to Robert Sanders, Sr. and Marie Sanders.

Courtenay attended Bowden Elementary, Riley Middle School, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1983.

Courtenay went on to achieve her B.A. in business at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

Courtenay accepted Christ at a young age and as a woman of great faith. She was a member of the Greater Ball Tabernacle A.M.E. Church. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir for awhile. Courtenay loved working with the church’s kitchen staff, where she would schedule vacation time to be available to prepare meals during Vacation Bible School.

Courtenay had a love for all sports and was well versed with the stats, players, team standings, and drafts. Her favorite teams were the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. She resided in Houston, TX from 1994 to 2011 and was employed as a social worker for the Texas Department of Human Services. She worked as an apartment manager and then worked as a compliance and planning coordinator for Baker-Hughes.

Courtenay loved back to San Antonio in 2011. She later began work at her final job with Charter Communications and was thrilled to work with a wonderful group of co-workers and looked forward to each workday.

Courtenay had no biological children but loved and nurtured her nephew, Ro Shawn, whom she adored and most recently her niece, Ta’Naisa.

She is preceded in death by her Father, Robert Sanders, Sr.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her devoted Mother, Marie Sanders; Aunt Jessie Mae Arthur; Brother, Robert Sanders; Jr., Uncles: Bobby Williams and Dempsey Wilson; Nephew Ro Shawn Sanders; Niece, Ta’Naisa Marie Sanders; God-daughter, Iris Cooper; Cousin, Marilyn Williams and a host of other family and friends.
