COL. (RET.) BOOKER CAMERON Obituary

Colonel Booker Telefaro Clemenceau Cameron (Nicknamed Buster and BTC) passed away on November 24, 2019 at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on February 17, 1930, to the parentage of Clarence and Gracie Cameron in Rusk County, Henderson, Texas. He was the third child and second son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cameron. Both of his parents, his older brother Clarence and younger sister Patricia preceded him in death.

Booker is survived by his wife Maxine, son Norman (Linda), sister Francis, brothers Martin (Olivia) and Randle (Brenda). Additionally left to cherish his memory are numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

Booker graduated from London High School in West Rusk County. Following high school graduation he attended Tuskegee Institute where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. While attending Tuskegee he joined the R.O.T.C. and upon graduation was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. He continued his education at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where he earned a Master of Education Degree in mathematics.

He attended the Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and in 1961 Captain Cameron completed he U. S. Army’s Infantry Officer’s Career course at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.

During his years of service, he served in the Korean Conflict and earned numerous outstanding service medals. Additionally, he served in Europe during the Berlin Crisis.

Upon Booker’s return to the states, he moved to San Antonio, Texas and continued his military service in the U. S. Army Reserve for thirty-two years. He retired with the rank of Colonel.

Booker was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He worked with the Housing Authority at The University of Texas and at St. Philips Community College. Later, he was employed by the San Antonio Independent School District from which he retired after many years of teaching.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for numerous years and was actively involved in the church until his health began to decline.
