Charles R. Williams was born on August 18, 1938 in Macon, GA to John and Pearl Williams. After graduating from Northeastern High School, Detroit, Michigan in 1957, Charles enlisted in the United States Air Force where he completed 4 years of service and received an Honorable Discharge in 1963.
While serving his country, Charles met and married Doris, nee Grady. To that union, two daughters were born: DeShelle and Dana. Charles was united with West End Baptist under the pastorage of Rev. J.A. Kemple where he served faithfully for over 60 years.
Charles was an avid gardener who loved being outdoors. On any given day, early in the morning or in the cool of the day, you could find him tending to his garden. He enjoyed growing a wide variety of vegetables, but more importantly he loved sharing the fruit of his labor with family and friends. He also loved all genres of music, but his favorite was jazz. A fond memory is our Friday or Saturday drive to the Sound Warehouse on Military Drive where he let us kids buy the album of our choice.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: Dru Robinson, and brothers: Eugene Crawford, Felton Williams, John Williams, Jr. and Alfred Williams. He leaves to cherish precious memories: Doris G. Williams (wife) of 61 years, daughters: DeShelle Smith (Otis) of Flower Mound, TX, and Dana Barber (Kent) of Colorado Springs, CO, Evey Chavez, Dorchester, MA (granddaughter), Love Chavez (great-granddaughter), Jiovannie Chavez (great-grandson), two sisters, six brothers and a host of other relatives and friends.
