Carol Lynn McNary was the third child and only daughter born to the union of Willie Bea Smith McNary and Olester Leo McNary Sr. on April 14, 1954 in San Antonio, Texas.
Carol graduated from Brackenridge High school where she played basketball, soccer and softball and received a letterman in each sport. She later received her Culinary Degree from St. Philips College where she excelled and received the name “Chef Diva”.
Carol accepted Christ at an early age at Zion Star Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Rev. James Jordan and remained there for several years after her father Pastor Emeritus Dr. O.L. McNary became the Pastor. She later moved her membership to True Vision Church where she served on several capacities on the Finance Committee, Greeter Minister and a volunteer for 2 plus years at the Open House just to name a few. Before her illness she moved her membership to Skybridge Church where she remained faithful and served on the Greeter and Women’s Ministry. Carol loved the Lord and was always praying for someone.
Carol married Allen Thomas Johnson on February 1, 1974 and to this union two children were born: Shantell Shanett and Terrel Allen Johnson.
Carol started her banking career in 1977 and retired in 2006. She was in management for over 25 years and was honored for her caring spirit throughout her career. Carol volunteer accomplishment after were retirement were exemplary. Junior Achievement Program (4 years) Special Olympics (4 years) Mentor Program with the University Texas Men’s Athletic Program (2 years) Volunteer-Financial Clerk for the Juneteenth Coalition (5 years), Volunteer for the MLK Celebration (2 years) Neighborhood Association Committee member for Denver Heights. Movie extra for “Friday Night Lights (4 years) Model and Chorographer for the 20 plus years and was known for always wearing 5-6-inch heels. She performed in several plays with Cathy Hornsby.
Carol loved life to the fullest, with a smile that would light up a room and a heart! She always gave and never expected anything in return. Carol’s children were her life and love and her adorable pet, Nino. Her favorite color was royal blue and she kept a positive attitude through it all.
Carol went to receive her heavenly award on October 26, 2019 with family surrounding her bedside. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Craig and Olester (Leo) McNary.
Carol leaves to cherish our Diva memory: her children: Shantell (Shanny), Terrell (T-ball) and his wife, (Oletha) her brother: Wayne (Esther), Sister-in law: Doris McNary, Cousins: Theresa (Cookie) and Lynda. Special Friends: Barbara Gaines, Yvonne House, Dorothy Shaw, Debra Collins, Lynn Haywood, Lincoya Brown, Patrice Watson, Georgia Whitaker, Hazel Given, Frank Vega and Margeretta Blane. A host of nieces, nephews other cousins and friends.
