Audrey “Tina” Washington was born August 1, 1929 in Litroe LA to Rosie Lee and Almos Eatmon. In 1943 the family relocated to Oakland CA where she attended school in the Oakland School District and graduated from McClymonds High School. While in Oakland, she attended Star Bethel Baptist Church with her mother and the family.
In 1947 she met James C. Washington; they fell in love and were united in Holy Matrimony in 1948. They began to live their dream “to have a large family” together. James worked for the Department of Defense (Civil Service) and for several years they resided in Fort Ord CA.
Together they were the proud parents of Darlene, Frederick, Jane, Paula, Cathy, Phillip, Stephen, Virgil, Gaynell, and Jeffrey. They were blessed with 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James and three of her children, Phillip (Sam), Cathy, Stephen and a great niece, Leah.
In 1957 the family moved to Los Angeles CA. In 1994, James and Audrey relocated to San Antonio TX to retire to a quiet life and clean air and join their daughter Darlene and her her husband Theodore (Ted) Jones. In March 1994, they joined the Greater Corinth Baptist Church where they serviced together.
Audrey was a distinguished “door keeper” in the sanctuary who greeted everyone with a warm smile or word of encouragement, as well as a faithful bible student. In her own unassuming way, she was the epitome of the Titus 2 woman who taught by example and made time to encourage younger women in their faith journey. Her favorite Old and New Testament scriptures were Ps 48:14 and John 14:27.
