A BEACON OF INTELLIGENCE AND WARMTH

April Smith was born on October 20, 1965, to the union of John and Mae Smith, in Marlin, Texas. Unexpectedly, she was called home on April 3, 2024, leaving behind a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

April's thirst for knowledge led her to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1987, followed by the attainment of a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Iowa Law School in 1991. Her brilliance shone brightly in both her academic pursuits and her professional endeavors.

She embarked on a fulfilling career at the Office of the Attorney General V of Texas, dedicating herself to family and child law with unwavering dedication and compassion. April's keen intellect and empathetic spirit touched the lives of countless individuals and families in need. Her commitment and excellence were recognized, and she was promoted to the esteemed position of Assistant Attorney General, a testament to her exemplary work ethic and leadership skills.

April's zest for life was contagious. She approached each day with a sense of adventure, always eager to explore new horizons and embrace new experiences. An avid reader, April found solace and joy in books, and her passion for cooking led her to amass a collection of hundreds of cookbooks. She cherished spending time with her father, John Smith, traveling across the state of Texas to discover new culinary delights at top-rated barbecue restaurants. Her magnetic personality and genuine kindness endeared her to all, making friends wherever she went.

A devout Christian, April's faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and illuminating her path. Her unwavering belief in the power of love and compassion inspired those around her and served as a testament to her deep spirituality.  She was a faithful member of West End Baptist Church where she chaired the Search Committee for a new pastor.  In 2015 she became a member of Resurrection Baptist Church of Schertz, Tx.

April is survived by her loving father, John Smith, and cherished nieces, Taylor Smith and Kwasha Bradshaw. April is also survived by a host of aunts and uncles, including Laura Massington, Freda Noell, Alma Goss, Queen Jones, Carolyn Smith, Sam Phillips Jr., Marjorie Greenwood, and Grace Winston. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Mae A. Smith, and beloved brother, John Paul Smith Jr. She was also preceded in death by her aunts and uncles, Laura Burrell, Shirley Smith, Betty Price, Aaron Smith, Henry Smith, Ella Morgan and Emma Taylor. 

April's radiant spirit, boundless intellect, and unwavering faith have left an indelible mark on our hearts. Her memory will continue to inspire us to embrace each day with joy, kindness, and a spirit of adventure. Though she may be gone from our sight, her light will continue to shine brightly in our lives forevermore.
