ALTHEA HAMPTON Obituary

Sister Althea Gaskin Hampton was born in San Antonio, Texas on
September 17, 1947 to the Reverend Leonard Curtis Gaskin and Mattie Lee Branch-Gaskin. She was called home to be with our Lord Jesus on December 19, 2020.

Althea accepted Christ at a young age attending Friendship Baptist Church and Mount Mariah Baptist Church. She later united with New Birth Missionary Baptist Church until becoming a founding member of the Abundant Life Christian Fellowship under the Pastorate of Rev. Stanley Wilson. She was an active member playing the piano, singing in the choir, Sunday School Teacher, Sisterhood member, Youth Usher Leader, Deaconess and Finance Chair. Althea loved people. She helped family, friend and strangers by giving of her time and talent. She loved decorating for all occasions, especially Christmas. She had a way of making everyone feel special by knowing just what to do on all occasions.

She attended public schools in S.A.I.S.D. and graduated from Brackenridge High School. She then continued her studies at Wayland Baptist University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration. Althea maintained her entire professional career of over 40 years at USAA retiring as a Claims Manager. Althea was blessed in Holy Matrimony to Jerry A. Hampton, Sr. for 23 years.

She is preceded in death by her father, Rev. L. C. Gaskin; her mother, Mattie Lee Branch-Gaskin; brother, Bernard Willard Gaskin and sister, Elaine Gaskin Thorpe. She leaves to cherish her memory husband Jerry A. Hampton, Sr.; children, Alayne Furgurson (Demetrick) Curtis Williams, Vernadete Ellis-Kyle (Richard), Edwin Thorpe (Autumn), Christman Hampton (Velma), Jerry Hampton, Jr.; grandchildren Mia Furguson, David Furguson, Cameron Thorpe, Devin Thorpe, Kalia Kyle, Jordan Massey, Christman Hampton II, Kendall Hampton and Sydney Hampton along with two great-grandchildren. God-Brother and Sister Oscar and Doris Vicks; God-Children Olivia Jewell (Duane) and Oletha Johnson (Terrell); special friends Dianne McNeil Henderson and Ruby Barnes; a host of cousins, close friends, and other relatives who loved her dearly.
