ALEXANDER FRANKLIN, SR. Obituary

CPO Alexander Franklin Sr., age 80, peacefully passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in his home in San Antonio, Texas after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Cushing, Oklahoma on July 28, 1941 to Gossie Cheadle and Mary M. Morris, but raised by his grandmother, Rosie Butler.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Essie P. Franklin, his children Teresa F. Copeland, Tracy Franklin, Alexander Franklin, Jr. and Anthony Franklin, his ten grandchildren Jasmin, David, Tiffani, Elijah, Alexander III, Andrew, Alana, Anthony Jr., Kevin, Lindsey and one great grandchild Levi. Also, he is survived by his brother Glen Franklin.

Alexander was a veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service, he earned the following medals: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and National Defense Service Medal along with the U.S. Navy 11th National District Heavyweight Boxing Championship Title of 1973.. He served faithfully and honorably in the United States Navy for twenty-one years and retired on May 31, 1983 as a Chief Petty Officer Storekeeper.

One of Alexander’s greatest passions was spending his spare time restoring classic muscle cars and trucks with the assistance of his wife. If you did not find him under a hood, Alexander would be out fishing with his daughters, watching a boxing match with his sons or laughing and sharing moments with his grandchildren. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will truly be missed and cherished always.
