Marie Taylor was born to Mr. David Lee Taylor and Mrs. Genilla Reed on August 18, 1946. She was their third child and the first daughter born to their union. She attended school in San Antonio at Grant Elementary School and Dunbar Junior High School before going on to St. Peter Claver Academy, the first private school for African-Americans in the state of Texas. Continuing her education she took an early interest in cosmetology before graduating from St. Phillips College to pursue a career as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.
Marie was known for her kind-heartedness and giving spirit. Baptized as a child; she maintained a strong faith in the Lord. She never missed an opportunity to help someone and she always had something to give. It was a rare occasion to leave her home empty-handed after a visit. She lived by the ‘shop till you drop’ code and enjoyed the simple pleasures of sisterly friendships spanning over 50 years and long phone conversations with her family members. Her sons and grandchildren were truly her pride and joy.
Now at rest, she has been reunited with her Simms father Mr. David Lee Taylor, her mother Mrs. Genilla Reed, her two brothers John Edward “Sonny” and Roy Taylor and the love of her life, Mr. Leslie Derry.
She leaves to cherish her memory two dedicated sons Corliss Taylor (Eva Renee) and Michael Rabb; two amazing granddaughters Anjanae Rabb-Robinson (Joshua) of Houston, TX and Adreece Rabb of San Antonio, TX, one adorable great granddaughter Amiyah Rabb-Robinson; three brothers Lewis Reed and Leon Reed of San Antonio, TX and Earl Moore (Emma) of Houston, TX; three sisters Delfine Jones (Nathaniel), Novella Thompson, and Valentina Bruno (Joe) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, etc that loved her dearly.
