STEVEN ROY DOWNER

Steven R. Downer was born on November 4, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois to George and Edwina M. Downer, whom both preceded him in death. Steve graduated from Lindblom High School in Chicago and shortly after that joined the US Air Force at the age of 17, where he served for 21 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant.

During his career in the Air Force Steve spent time in the Philippines, Okinawa, Panama, and at Kirtland Air Force Base, where he was honored for his distinguished service as a security police officer. Shortly after his military service, he settled in San Antonio with his wife Willie E. Downer. After retiring from the Air Force, Steve continued to serve his nation as a computer programmer for the Federal government for 16 years, at both Randolph and Kelly Air Force bases in San Antonio.

Steve attended the University of Albuquerque where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science. While attending the university, he met his wife Willie E. Downer, who was studying nursing. They married in 1982 in Albuquerque and later moved to San Antonio where they spent 31 wonderful years together before her passing in 2013.

Steve was a loyal member of the Masonic family for several years until his lengthy illness caused him to become inactive. Steve held his title as a 33rd degree Mason in the Star Tom Lodge #100.

Steve made his transition on June 13, 2019. He leaves to mourn, his children, Shaundre Richardson (Taylor), and Steven J. Downer; step-children, Louis Brooks III (Donna), Daryl Brooks; grandchildren, Louis IV, Terrance Ladson, Aaron Ladson, Jasmine Ladson and Zorah Richardson; Siblings, Regina Morris and Marcus Moore (Janet); nieces, Angela Wise (Bryant), Cynthia Igbinovia (Bill), and Gabriella Moore, and a host of great­grandchildren.
