P.H. MARTIN Obituary

P.H Martin, the patriarch of this family, departed this life peacefully on March 2, 2019, at the age of 95. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose laughter and smile will be greatly missed by those who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

P.H. Martin was born July 18, 1923, in Linden, TX to the late Needom Martin and Mary Stephens. He received his education in Cass County at Pleasant Hill and Fairview High School. He joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Linden, TX at an early age.  He was united in the matrimony with Eunice Marie Watson in August of 1947 and was the proud father to four children, ten grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. P.H. is preceded in death by his three brothers Needom Martin, Jr., Larnzell Martin , and Henry L. Martin, his sister Ammer Jean Edward, daughter Shirley Walker, and grandson, Dennis Dover.

P.H. Martin joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduating high school. After 23 years of active duty service, he retired as a Technical Sergeant in 1974. During his military tenure he was awarded an Air Force Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and an Air Force Longevity Service Medal.  He and his family made a home in San Antonio, TX where he would remain until his last days.

After moving to San Antonio, the Martin family joined Westridge Park First Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. C. J. Bias. He later united with Second Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Dr. Robert L. Jemerson, where he attended services regularly and was an active member of the Sunday School and Men’s Usher Board for decades until his health began to fail.
