NORRIS McVEA, SR. Obituary

Norris Louis McVea Sr, the first of nine children born to Daniel and Mattie McVea, was born in Waelder TX.  He was educated in San Antonio, graduating from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1948. Norris married his high school sweetheart, Willie Mae Bryant in 1948 and they have two children, Audrie Lawton and Norris McVea Jr.

He retired as a prominent cement contractor after working for over 50 years. He was employed by H. B. Zachry Construction Co. before forming his own successful business.

He confessed his life to Christ at an early age.  He joined West End Baptist Church and was baptized by the late W. I Rector. There he remained until married Willie Mae Bryant.

In 1948 he united with the New Light Baptist Church, under the late Dr. P.S. Wilkerson.  Brother McVea was ordained as a Deacon November 1, 1968.  Rev. Paul G. Wilkinson is now his pastor.

History was recorded in 1981 when he organized a most powerful auxiliary, “The Young Men for Christ”, also called “Young Men for Christian Action”. Their commitment was to mold strong young men to fill the role of the men that were no longer with us.

Deacon McVea served his church as Sunday School Teacher, President of Earnest Workers in the Baptist Training Union. He also served as the Church Administrator and Chairman of Trustees.

Deacon McVea supervised the installation of the service elevator.  He was known as the fix it man, custodian, mechanic and electrician and wore all hats with a smile.

Norris was most proud to be in the Masonic Brotherhood. He has been potentate of Moussa Temple No 106. He was a member of Lone Star Consistory No 113, San Antonio Lodge No1, the United Supreme Council 33rd Degree John Griggs Commanders of the Right.  He also served as worshipful Master of San Antonio Lodge No1.  He and his wife Willie Mae traveled all over the country to attend Annual Sessions of the Imperial Council Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and was awarded the title of Honorary Past Imperial Potentate in Atlanta, GA.

Left to celebrate his life: Wife Willie Mae McVea, son Norris McVea Jr. daughter Audrie Lawton, grandchildren Courtney McVea, Justin McVea (Tiffany), Norris McVea III(Grace), Audrie Lawton, Jr.; great grandchildren, Shelby Jolivette, Sydney Jolivette, Trinity McVea, Allie McVea, Noah Woods, Jaden McVea, Madison McVea, Justice McVea all of Houston , TX; brother, Warren McVea, Houston, TX, sister Charles Etta McVea of San Antonio, TX,  Sister in Law, Irene McVea, Maggie Hart, Erna Rose Shields, Ruth Helen Netherly, Lonzetta Bryant, brother in law Billy Neuls all of San Antonio, TX.

Proceded in death by parents, Mr. Daniel McVea, Sr and Mrs. Mattie Mills McVea. two sisters, Ruby Nell Humphrey, Beverly Jean Neuls; Brothers Allred McVea, Daniel McVea Jr, Tommie McVea, Billy Floyd McVea.
