MATTIE WRIGHT Obituary

Mrs. Mattie Bell Wright was born on April 15, 1934 to the Late Saeb and Ruby Parham in Pine Level, Montgomery County, Alabama.   She was part of a large family of 14 sisters and brothers who grew up on a farm to become a beautiful, courageous, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

She met and married the love of her life, the Late Sargent Wilbert Wright Sr in 1954 in Charlton County, Georgia and traveled the world as an army wife. She and Wilbert together, raised 9 children: Linda, Clara, Vickie, Timothy, Paul, Shirley, Wilbert Jr , Effie and Coretta.

Mattie was an inspirational lady. She was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals from scratch.  She could amazingly sew anything her imagination could contrive. And for those who were graced to be near her, knew she had a powerful singing voice. But what all of us know her best for was her ability to care for children.

During her husband’s army enlistment, Mattie traveled all around the world, to include, Japan, Germany, and Hawaii. During her time in Germany, Mattie became an entrepreneur and opened her own daycare center.  When she returned to the states, she worked at Jeff Davis Middle School, Luby’s and after her husband retired, she resumed her business as a homecare provider that catered to enlisted parents.

Mattie loved camping and fishing which earned her as many trophies as praise for her famous fish fry hush puppies! And her crafty talent was always on display in the family Livingroom. Mattie was full of spirit and fun.  A party was a big party at the Wright family home. You would find yourself laughing at her quick wit and humorous jokes and enjoying her love for family celebrations.

Always a fashionable lady, Mattie taught us to always look and be our best. Her gentleness and love for her family is what Mattie taught us to value the most. Her commitment and care of those most innocent is her legacy.  Mattie Bell Wright passed away surrounded by family on May 9,2019.

She is survived by her daughter Clara and Vicky, son, Timothy and his wife Pamela, her daughter- in- law Machell, daughter Shirley and her husband William Tyrone, son, Wilbert Jr and his wife Felicia, daughter Effie and her spouse Bobby, daughter Coretta and her husband Bill, 31 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Her Brother John, Joe and Henry and sister Annie, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Seab and Ruby, Siblings Otis, Fred, Alberta, Janie, Willie, SP, Emma Lee, ST and Albert, her loving husband Wilbert, her children Wilbur, Linda and Paul.

Let us always remember that the life of Mattie Bell Wright was full of blessings and we are the inheritors of her grace, strength and love. Let everything that she taught us remain in our hearts and be celebrated each day in our good works.
