MARCUS CARTER Obituary

Marcus L. Carter was born Oct. 29, 1963 in Bridgeton, NJ to Rhoda M. and Alfred M. Carter. After an extended illness, Marcus was called to his eternal rest New Year’s Eve Dec. 31, 2019 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.  He graduated from Vineland Senior High School in 1982 of which he excelled in basketball.  He went on to earn a scholarship to play at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. 

In 1984, Marcus joined the United States Air Force and pursued various occupations during his tour, such as Air Traffic Control, Hazardous Cargo Training, and finally what ended up being his passion in Computer Instructional System Designing and Education/Training Management. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Education & Training from the University of Maryland. He then went on to pursue his Masters in E-Learning & Training while earning Suma Cum Laude at Touro University. 

In 1985, Marcus married his high school sweetheart Venus Steward and traveled with his family to numerous overseas duty stations including the Philippines, Guam, and Germany. He was a devoted husband and loving father to 4 children while completing his military commitment of 21yrs then retiring at Travis AFB, California. After retirement, he began his civil service career as an Instructional Systems Specialist in San Antonio, TX. He was very involved in community activities where he shined at mentoring the youth as well as adults alike. He was very active as a union steward and diligently sought to help others in need.

Marcus was very much beloved in his military community and is cherished by many family and friends. His presence will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is predeceased by his 2 ½ mos. old daughter Tiara R. Carter, and his mother Rhoda M. Carter.

In great sadness he leaves behind his wife Venus of 34yrs, 3 living children – Marcus Jr., Asia D. and Brandon A., 2 daughter in laws – Rena K and Lena R Carter, & 3 grandchildren – Cameron 13, Camari 7 and Naomi 4 all of San Antonio and Austin, TX.  He also leaves behind his father Alfred Carter & stepmother Nan Carter of Vineland, NJ, his brother Richard D. Carter of Las Vegas, NV, his mother in law Marva Steward residing in TX , brother in law Shaun Steward of NJ and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbors and so many friends.

Funeral services will be held in his home state of NJ on 10 January 2020 at the Union Baptist Temple Church in Bridgeton. Viewing will be from 9-11am with a Funeral following at 11am.

Burial services will take place on Tuesday January 14, 2020 at 2pm in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery San Antonio, TX
